Looking for residential oil tank removal Roanoke homeowners can trust? Appalachian Environmental, LLC removes old heating oil tanks from homes across Roanoke and southwestern Virginia. This project shows how we removed a tank next to a house while protecting the home, the patio, and the landscaping.
The photos above follow a home heating oil tank project from the first look at the yard to the finished site.
Finding the Tank
Older homes often have an oil tank buried beside the house, with a fill pipe and vent still visible at the surface. Here, the pipes led us to the tank location along the foundation, near a stone retaining wall and a paver patio that needed to stay intact.
Careful Excavation
We used an excavator to dig down to the tank, working close to the foundation without damaging the home. Careful digging matters when a tank sits this close to a building.
Removing the Tank
The photos show the tank being lifted out of the ground. A tank truck on site handles the fuel and liquids from the tank, and a dump truck hauls material away.
Checking the Tank and Soil
Once the tank is out, we look at its condition. The first photo shows a corroded tank wall with holes, which is why old tanks can leak. We also check the soil around the tank for signs of contamination.
Backfilling and Restoring the Yard
When the work is done, we fill the excavation and compact the soil so the area settles properly. The finished photos show the yard and the home’s surroundings back in good shape.
